We are conditioned to believe that the characteristics that make us human are the same that make us weak. We have been drawn to be governed by our minds and the power derived from thinking. And on this path of rationality, we have forgotten that to feel is to be human.

Feelings are much more that the gushy stuff we must deal with every time we are confronted with an unpleasant experience. Feelings are our way to know. Our most primitive, and basic way to know, not only about the world, but about ourselves.

Have you ever heard the saying "get in contact with your feelings"? It is not only about contacting and learning how to express your feelings. It is more about realizing that feelings are one of the human most basic capacities. Feelings are not only there to differentiate between emotions. They are an open door to knowledge. And if that door is shut because of beliefs, conditions, traumas, drawbacks, etc., then we are impeding ourselves from really being human. To be is to feel.

How can we be anything else than human if we do not even know what that is? To feel is to be human. When we feel, we communicate with others. We were equipped with perception skills as a guiding tool to know about ourselves, others, and the world; to be aware of this connectedness. And in this unity, be human. Imagine we are all aware that feeling is our most basic capacity, and we use it as the compass to direct our thoughts and actions. Imagine decisions were taken from that perspective. From the human perspective, having into account what humans feel. If we can base ourselves from that premise, we would not hurt ourselves or others. We would feel, think, and act in complete harmony where kind, joyful and grateful experiences sprout. And we all want a human experience like that.

The self-knowledge path or realization is one of self-reflection. When we reflect about these things, we understand that feeling is a capacity that help us experience ourselves and everything else around us. If we want to experience being human, we must feel. And in feeling, realizing who we are. We cannot pretend to have an experience where we do not feel. To feel is to know about the experience. This one is a human one. And that is all we are, at least in this experience.
